If you need a coffee stomach ache cure, start here. I love coffee, but not the feeling it leaves behind. Here’s what I drink now that I love more than coffee.
That’s right – I stopped drinking coffee every day. I know you are thinking BUT WHY?! Something weird happened to me after having my second baby – my tastes changed.
I’m so used to having at least one cup of coffee with sugar and creamer, it was strange to me when that cup of coffee tasted bitter and left me feeling sick to my stomach. You know the ‘sour stomach’ feeling, right?
Why Did Coffee Turn Against Me?
I was determined not to let my beloved coffee go. So, I tried different roasts, different beans, etc. Nothing was working. Even if I enjoyed the taste of the occasional latte from Starbucks or McDonalds, I could only drink half of the smallest version. And the stomach issues still followed.
But, I was STILL drinking my regular coffee every day because I needed the caffeine boost in the morning. (Two kids, remember?)
Why Does Coffee Cause Stomach Issues?
First of all, if you drink coffee, you already know that coffee acts as a laxative. If you are searching for a coffee stomach ache cure, you’ll be interested to read this. According to Health Ambition:
Drinking coffee can stimulate peristalsis, the process in the digestive tract that makes us head for the bathroom. Some people use it deliberately as a laxative, but there’s a problem with this.
By stimulating peristalsis, coffee also appears to promote increased gastric emptying, whereby the stomach’s contents are quickly passed into the small intestines, often before the digesting food has been properly broken down.
In this partially digested state, it makes it much more difficult for nutrients to be absorbed from your food. It also increases the chances of irritation and inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract.
Once again, decaffeinated coffee has also been shown to have laxative and gastric emptying properties so it seems caffeine alone is not to blame.
Studies have shown that drinking coffee has bad effects on your gut. If you drink several cups of coffee a day, you might see an increase in stomach acidity, acid reflux, IBS and other gut disorders. I don’t even want to get into the fact drinking excessive coffee could increase the chances of food rotting in the gut.
Coffee Stomach Ache Cure
Coffee can be beneficial for many people. But for me, the acidity in my K-cups was causing me to have ongoing gut issues. There are also many chemicals in coffee that could cause stomach acid secretion in stomach cells.
A friend introduced me to something called smart coffee. This coffee from Elevate claims to be “happy coffee” that will help with weight management, mental clarity, memory, and creativity. The friend that introduced me was also losing weight by just adding this stuff to her coffee.
I was hesitant because of my issues with coffee, and it turns out what works for her didn’t exactly work for me. Of course, I immediately went online to find reviews of Elevate Coffee and I saw several positive reviews from people that had reduced their coffee intake by using this smart coffee.
How much coffee are you drinking? Are you in search of a coffee stomach ache cure?
What is Elevate Coffee?
According to the company, “Elevate is a great tasting micro-ground, functional coffee that contains a proprietary blend of Nootropic ingredients designed to assist with mental clarity, memory, and energy. The Nootropics in Elevate are all-natural amino acids typically found in protein-rich foods but not always easy to get from diet alone.”
According to Wikipedia, Nootropics (English pronunciation: /noʊ.əˈtrɒpɪks/ noh-ə-TROP-iks), also known as smart drugs and cognitive enhancers, are drugs, supplements, and other substances that improve cognitive function, particularly executive functions, memory, creativity, or motivation, in healthy individuals.
After researching exactly what the term “Nootropics” means, I was instantly intrigued. As a full-time working mom with two kids, a husband, and a crazy busy lifestyle, I was struggling. Memory issues, stress, weight gain…all those fun things. So, I thought I would give it a try.
So many advantages in addition to being my coffee stomach ache cure.
I add to my Protein Smoothie
When I received the product, I added a scoop to my coffee as my friend suggested. I DID NOT immediately love it. The directions on the package state:
How to Use: This “Functional Beverage” can be mixed in almost anything; by itself or added to your existing hot coffee. Mix 1 serving (scoop or stick) in 4-8oz of hot or cold water, stir well and enjoy. You may also use Elevate as a boost by adding 1 serving to your favorite coffee, iced tea, or protein shake.
It turns out one scoop has about 100 mg of caffeine. The average cup of coffee has about 80 mg of caffeine. Here’s what I tried and what I still do on a daily basis: I add half a scoop to my protein smoothie. I drink this every morning and I no longer NEED my cup of coffee. Half a scoop of Elevate Smart Coffee has enough caffeine to meet my needs.
It’s been a little over a month since I started using smart coffee and the benefits for me have been very real. My mood level is constant – this has been an issue since having kids. My memory has noticeably improved. I’ve noticed a slight weight loss, but nothing significant, yet.
Elevate is very clear that their product needs a month or so for you to begin seeing results. So, get started today!
Best of all, I do NOT miss my daily cup of bitterness in my old coffee cup. By simply adding a little Elevate coffee into my smoothie, I get enough caffeine for the day. And I don’t miss the “stomach secretions” and gut issues I had before.
