New Year’s Eve Makeup

Before we get into the top New Year’s Eve makeup trends, let’s talk about some simple steps for everyday healthy skin.

Start with radiant skin.

One reason I fell in love with Arbonne is that they aren’t just selling skincare and makeup, they teach that beauty comes from the inside out.

Yes, I’ve been told, “Honey, you are beautiful on the inside!” Well…yes, of course, we are! But, I mean more like…consider your diet for healthy, radiant skin.

If you aren’t happy with your skin, consider your diet. You may be eating some common allergens like gluten or dairy that are causing your skin not to be as perfect as you would like to be.

Arbonne even provides a 30-day plan that will help teach you to eat better, remove those common allergens, and use vegan nutrition. It’s almost guaranteed that your skin will improve if you stick to the plan.

As a lady in my 40’s, skincare is a top priority for me. It wasn’t always a priority, so I encourage anyone older or younger than me to start today and take better care of your skin! It’s never too late or too early to get started. In fact, I recently wrote about this in an article titled, “Radiant Skin: 5 Unique Ways to Improve Your Skin’s Appearance.

New Year’s Eve Makeup Tips

Take a look at these tips and let me know in the comments if you have any to add.

Focus on One Feature

An age-old piece of advice stands true for New Year’s Eve. Pick one feature to focus on- eyes or lips. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun with both. It just means that if you are doing a smoky eyeshadow/liner look, go for a more neutral shade of lipstick. Or if you want to play with red lipstick for your New Year’s Eve makeup, stick to a restrained eyeliner.

Beware the Raccoon Eyes

It is so tempting to try out a smoky eye on New Year’s Eve. You can, of course, just be sure to proceed with caution. No matter where the night takes you, it’s going to be a late night (at least Midnight, right?!) If you aren’t used to smoky eyeshadow or cat-eye liner, take it easy especially with an ultra-black color that can smudge easily and make you look like a raccoon before the night is over.

Consider dark lashes and liner and more gold or metallic shadow. Keep reading to the see New Year’s Eve makeup trends where I’ve got some great recommendations for the perfect NYE eyeshadow.

Use your Normal Foundation and Moisturizer

You don’t want your skin to freak out on you when you decide to try a new color for your New Year’s Eve makeup. Use what you know already works with your skin. If you are looking for a longer-lasting foundation, try mixing your foundation with your moisturizer. According to goop.com, this will “leave a flattering, firming sheen, and make layering easier.”

Shine, Baby, Shine

New Year’s Eve makeup is meant to make you stand out and feel beautiful. Tonight is your night to shine! Whether it’s glitter or metallics, play up your eyes, lips, hair. Spray some of the glitter gel I mention below on your hair, shoulders, or decolletage. You are never too old to wear a little glitter (or a lot of glitter).

But, Only Shine in the Right Spots

If you have oily or combination skin, you know that you may see some greasy spots come through as the night goes on. Be sure to take along some blotting paper or powder to help combat an oily t-zone throughout the night. Be sure your New Year’s Eve makeup stays spot on.

New Year’s Eve Makeup Trends 2019

Here are the top makeup trends for you to try on New Year’s Eve.

Healthy, Glowing Skin

I’m a bit obsessed with this nourishing facial oil! This sheer dry oil contains omega fatty acids 3 and 6, plus a super antioxidant to help support luminous, radiant skin! This is just like a superfood for your skin and will hydrate and moisturize where it’s needed most. This oil is a must-have for NYE and every day.

Check out this Nourishing Facial Oil from Arbonne:

Nude Lips

Like I mentioned above, if you are focusing on your eyes, go easy on your lips. This nude lipstick is great even for sensitive skin, plus has conditioners that will keep your lips soft and kissable when midnight comes around!

New Year’s Eve Makeup Tip:

Need a quick lip plump? Try this tip from Byrdie, “Trick your fellow New Year’s Eve partygoers into thinking you had a little work done by plumping your lips with a toothbrush. Wet your lips with warm water and then gently brush them in small circular motions with a clean, soft-bristled toothbrush. Fuller, softer, more naturally pink lips will be revealed. Lock in moisture with your favorite lip balm, and then apply a statement lip color to highlight your newly enhanced pout. This idea works perfectly for a New Year’s Eve makeup look.”

Bronzer/Highlighter

New Year’s Eve is your time to shine! Be sure to highlight your cheek and brow bones to make your features pop.

Glow-On Bronzer

Create some solar flare. This silky-light powder creates the look of glowing cheeks and brow bones. Brushes on evenly for a flawless-looking finish.

Sheer Glow Highlight Stick

The highlight of your day. Our dual ended, multi-purpose highlight stick accentuates and defines your best features. This silky duo glides gently over foundation adding radiance without streaking your makeup. Use Pearl to highlight and Bronze to give you an effortless glow.

Gold EyeShadow

Gold is huge this season! But, no matter what color you go with, use this ‘Prime & Proper Eye Makeup Primer” before. This is great on a daily basis, but especially for your New Year’s Eve makeup look. It will prevent your eyeshadow from creasing or fading and allow your color to pop.

Check out this gold palette! You can create some amazing and unique gold looks for your New Year’s Eve makeup.

New Year’s Eve Makeup Tip: Byrdie has an awesome idea to help recreate a backstage look for NYE. ‘Even if you don’t possess any professional skills. All you need is an unexpected eye shadow shade and the Scotch Magic Tape (check price here) you used a few days prior to wrapping presents. Place a strip of tape at a 45-degree angle on the outer corner of each eye. Then, use a small brush to apply a bright cream eyeshadow. The tape acts as a stencil, keeping the shadow exactly where you want it. Bonus tip: Create the eye look first, and then you’re free to clean up any smudges with a cotton swab before moving on to the rest of your face.’

Lashes for Days

I tend to go with fake eyelashes for a big night out. Lately, I have noticed that my eyelashes appear longer and thicker with several months of using “It’s a Long Story” Mascara from Arbonne. Either option are great for your New Year’s Eve makeup!

These fake eyelashes come with an easy to apply tool, and I love that they are cruelty-free!

New Year’s Eye Makeup Tip: If you don’t want to use fake eyelashes but want super-plumped looking lashes, try this tip. Simply heat your eyelash curler and hold it under your blow-dryer for 30 seconds. After you make sure it isn’t too hot, use it on your lashes for more volume than ever. Then apply mascara.

Glitter! All the Glitter!

Your New Year’s Eve makeup look needs glitter! NYE is for feeling beautiful and standing out. Try this Unicorn Sparks Glitter Gel. The glitter gel is an aloe vera gel which has organic aloe leaf juice. There are so many fun uses for this spray-on glitter gel.

EyeLiner

If you aren’t already using liquid eyeliner, it’s time to check it out. The thin felt-tip brush makes it easy to start small and build to make the perfect New Year’s Eve makeup look.

If you follow me on Instagram (@healthy.mom.beauty.) then you know that I struggle to put on eyeliner! Here’s what I’ve learned: All you do is start with the top lid, from the inner corner of your eye and work outward using short strokes. Start close to the lashes for a natural look or build it up for a more dramatic NYE look. Look down for a better angle and take a selfie with your eyes closed to check placement.

You are all ready for your night on the town with the perfect New Year’s Eve makeup! But wait! Do you have an outfit? Here are some of my favorites!
