Why is it that as we age, especially if we love to laugh and smile, that our skin seems to penalize us by turning those laughs into laugh lines?
If you are like me, you have a lot of expressions when you talk. My face always gives away what I’m thinking…often at the worst times.
The skin around your eyes is constantly moving, in fact even blinking causes 10,000 movements per day.
Smiling, squinting, staring at computers or devices too long can all cause laugh lines, crow’s feet, or any kind of fine line under your eyes.
The skin around our eyes is ten times thinner than the rest of the skin on your face.
Extra care should be given when you touch your eye area.
Be sure to use the ring finger to apply any cosmetics or moisturizers to that part of the face. Your ring finger is the weakest finger you have and won’t able to apply much pressure.
Why do we get Fine Lines Around Eyes?
The skin ages in two ways – biologically (Thanks, Mom) and environmentally (Thanks, Sun).
According to the American Academy of Dermatology:
- Production of collagen and elastin slows down a dramatic 65% between ages 20 and 80.
- The thickness of the skin decreases 6% every 10 years.
- The sun causes 90%–95% of the wrinkles, lines, as well as brown, red and white discoloration on our bodies.
- 90% of premature facial aging can be attributed to sun damage. This is why you’ll see me wearing a hat if I am outside!
Okay, let’s talk about the causes of wrinkles.
Is anyone else here a Martina McBride fan? ME! I’m literally one of her biggest fans. I was listening to “This One’s for the Girls” recently and this line hit close to home:
This is for all you girls about forty-two,
Tossin’ pennies into the fountain of youth,
Every laugh line on your face,
Made you who you are today.
Martina, if you are reading, I love you.
I’ve mentioned in a previous post that my skincare goal is to age gracefully. The wrinkles are going to come anyway, but there are few treatments for wrinkles around eyes that you can easily do without using needles or injectables to fix them
Here are the top causes that lead us looking for treatments for wrinkles around eyes:
- You speak with lots of gestures and emotions
- Hormonal disorders that lead to a violation of skin elasticity (for example, during the post-menopause in women, this skin defect begins to form)
- Chronic fatigue
- Lack of sleep
- Too much sun exposure
- Frequent stress
- The use of alcoholic beverages
- Use substandard cosmetics
- Use of unintended cosmetics for this area of the face
- Rubbing various masks, creams or scrubs into this zone
- Long work at the computer
- Genetic predisposition
10 simply amazing methods of treatment for wrinkles around eyes
1. Drink more water
The skin around the eye is very thin and subject to dehydration. The BEST treatment for wrinkles around eyes is to simply drink more water. Here’s how to calculate how much water you should drink: Divide your body weight in half, then divide that by 8. That is the MINIMUM number of cups of water you should be drinking on a daily basis.
I challenge you to drink half your body weight in ounces daily. It’s tough to get used to at first, but then you’ll start to see some amazing positive results in your skin and the way you feel overall.
Tip: Get a fun bottle that you enjoy drinking out of. Something fun, fancy, or flirty will help encourage you to drink and carry your water with you wherever you go.
2. Wear sunglasses
This is a pretty basic treatment for wrinkles around eyes. Sun damage is the worst damage to our skin and causes 90 – 95% of wrinkles. Plus, the sun also causes age spots and other discoloration in our skin. Anytime you feel the need to squint or strain your eyes to see, you need sunglasses.
Bonus: Wear a hat for prolonged sun exposure. A big floppy hat that will cover your entire face is a great way to preserve your skin and reduce the effects of the sun.
Tip: If you already have age spots, I have an awesome product suggestion to help get rid of them. It’s called resurfacing pads.
This retinoid solution with skin resurfacing pads gently exfoliates to promote cell turnover at the skin’s surface and brightens to help significantly reduce the look of dark spots and fine lines.
Retinoids, along with other ingredients, helps reduce the appearance of dark spots and skin discoloration; with continued use, skin tone and clarity is more evenly restored
3. Sleep on your back
Here’s a tip from Live About for a treatment for wrinkles around eyes – avoid sleeping on your stomach.
“When you sleep on your belly, the side of your face resting on your pillow is squished for hours at a time. By constantly squishing your face each night into your pillow, you are causing creasing which can eventually turn into wrinkles. (Notice sleep lines each morning?)
Try falling asleep on your back. If you find it hard to stay that way, put a pillow under your knees, which will help you stay in place and not roll over onto your stomach.
Can’t imagine not sleeping on your belly? Consider investing in a specially shaped pillow that allows you to sleep on your stomach while protecting your skin from wrinkles.”
4. Don’t touch!
What do you when you get tired from straining too long at the computer or when you wake up in the morning? You rub your eyes. Stop doing that! Rubbing and tugging in that delicate area around your eyes will only cause more damage. Remember this treatment for wrinkles around eyes – keep your hands off!
5. Use SPF
I understand that certain skin types have issues with SPF, but it’s so important that you find the right one that works for you. Daily SPF should be the first step for treatment for wrinkles around eyes.
Check out this premium SPF. It has a multipurpose formula provides critical moisture to the skin to hydrate, smooth and firm skin’s appearance while helping reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Unique botanical complex helps replenish skin’s natural moisture barrier, leaving it feeling soft and smooth. It has a long-lasting moisturizing formula helps maintain youthful-looking, hydrated skin. Plus, a broad spectrum SPF 20 sunscreen offers UVA/UVB protection to minimize the risk of sun damage or aging, if used as directed with other sun protection measures.
6. Face yoga
This is one of my FAVORITES when it comes to treatment for wrinkles around eyes. I discovered anti-aging face yoga on dailyom.com. DailyOM.com is an amazing website with so many classes. Prices start at $10 and you have lifetime access to each lesson from the class.
I have no affiliation with dailyom.com. I recommend them every chance I get. Take a look and you will find several classes that will likely interest you.

7. Premium skincare
I can’t emphasize this enough – check the ingredients of your skincare. You may be amazed to discover that we put so many chemicals on our skin. The products we put on our skin are absorbed into our bloodstream. So, be sure that you are using a premium skincare for your treatment for wrinkles around eyes.
8. Ultrasound Tool
This is such a cool treatment for wrinkles around eyes, and one of my favorite tools! It’s called the Genius Ultra. It uses ultrasound technology to push your skincare products deeper into the layers of your skin.
If you want even better, faster results from your Arbonne® skincare, you need to start using the Genius Ultra right away!
The Genius Ultra emits gentle, low-level ultrasound waves to help push the product onto the various layers of the skin by getting into the ridges. With just a few minutes a day, you can effectively maximize your Arbonne skincare products to work harder, for faster results! Use the Genius Ultra together with any face and neck products on the forehead, eyes, lips, cheeks, neck, and décolletage and start seeing results!
9. Gel eye pads
Imagine having the coolness of a cucumber to soothe tired eyes plus the moisture-boosting superfood cocktail of antioxidants, omegas, and phytonutrients to help soften the look of baby lines around the eyes. All of this is available in a gel eye mask that soothes and cools on contact.
This is a refreshing treatment for wrinkles around eyes!
Here’s the bad news, there is no overnight treatment for wrinkles around eyes that works instantly. Find a product that you like, use the entire line. Premium skincare products were made to work together, so you will be getting an added bonus if you use all the products.
Now, use those products day and night. It takes time to see results and you must be consistent. If you are ever too tired to go through the entire routine to take care of your skin, then simplify rather than skip.
